    • Certainly this trend seems motivated by profit more than a desire for meaningful storytelling. Production companies now weigh the ability to produce a film based upon its potential to spawn sequels. I'd be interested in exploring the difficulties faced by an unestablished writer/director in obtaining backing for a unique standalone project.     An interesting point about driving out the bad to make room for the good. The only problem with the idea of critics and the improving of films: people will see a movie no matter how terrible it is (see Transformers, Transformers 2, etc. (here’s looking at you, Bay)). In the long run, it seems like critics are merely a slap on the wrist in the grand scheme of things.

    I enjoyed the article. I’m afraid that super hero movies have gotten out of control. Their saturation of the cinema has caused movies in general to gain a certain stigma.
