The Emphasis of Violence in Anime

Analyze what the effect of gore and violence cause in anime, and how it improves or degrades plot. Is gore and violence merely a visual appeal or is there more meaning to it. An example from a film is Quinten Tarantino’s "Reservoir Dogs." He mentions in an interview that he wanted to emphasize the violence in his film so that it’s realistic and in your face, so that it has the effect of being spontaneous. Anime that could be considered for this topic could be Parasyte, Deadman Wonderland, or Attack on Titan.

  • I like this topic, and would like to add few more animes to the case studies. Definitely take a look at Devil Man by Go Nagai. Nagai's work has been tremendously influential, especially when it comes to sex and violence in manga and anime. It would be an example worth studying. – idleric 3 weeks ago

  • Effect of violence is a two sided coin....while it can enhance the viewing by providing exhilarating action sequences,it can also distract the viewer by offsetting them or affecting the tone . violence done right should be a plot point rather than simply being a sort of fan service . – Akash 6 days ago

Rhetoric and Comedy

Analyze how comedy is a legitimate form of rhetoric, as rhetoric is language that is intended to influence people. People that have been seen as successful rhetoricians are people like Martin Luther King jr., Plato, and Obama. These people have been popular in the field of politics, but how does comedy come off as legitimate way to influence emotion and character. Maybe try using TV shows such as The Office or Parks and Recreation.

  • This is an excellent idea but it is slightly broad. Consider distilling this topic by looking at a specific work or text. The author has suggested 'The Office' or 'Parks and Recreation.' That said, however, the author has also preceded that by referring to individuals with political perspectives and agendas. The writer of this prompt should consider looking at comedic works that either have or aim to have any kind of political influence. Many satirical works would be worth examining. – IsidoreIsou 3 months ago

I feel that the films where he is the sole director he really gets to put his talent into full practice. I enjoyed films like Sin City, and Dusk Till Dawn, but they carry a different vibe.

Thank you! Can you name some of your work. I’d love to check it out especially if you were inspired by Tarantino.

You should try one of the other Tarantino films, but I have found that a lot of people can’t handle the gore.

I still haven’t gotten the chance to watch Jackie Brown, but it’s definitely on my list of films.

I found that there are still a lot of points in the film that are left to the viewers interpretation. That’s another thing that’s great about it, and wow everyday for an entire Summer! now that’s dedication.

Definitely well thought out ideas and it analyzes the question of what is more important: privacy or security. I think we could all agree that we as citizens still need our human right to privacy.
