Did The Sopranos make it hard for other shows to follow its place?

About a year ago I watched "The Sopranos" for the first time after hearing so much about it for years. After finishing its six seasons, it felt like I had just watched the greatest television series in my life. As an avid TV viewer, I had watched tons of great series but since I’ve watched The Sopranos I felt myself comparing it to the shows I had seen in the past and present, and I just feel like nothing has really lived up to the impact that The Sopranos has imprinted. It covered such a wide variety of topics, even though it was a mob/mafia centric show, it did an excellent job adding subjects of comedy, romance, thriller, etc. What do you guys think?

  • Agree with seriouscourt here. Writing about how layered Tony in particular is would be interesting, and it would touch on how this isn't just another mafia show but rather a case study on this really fascinating character. – PopJ 2 years ago
