Gamification and the Arts

Games like Guitar Hero, Rock Band, PaRappa the Rapper and Dance Dance Revolution brought new approaches to education in the arts. Teachers have been intrigued for decades as to how gamification can be used to foster learning. Gaming’s ability to engage, enthrall, and even addict people has only grown more as technology continues to blur the lines between what is real and what is artificial.

Numerous industries now use some element of gamification to keep their clientele engaged, and arts education is no different. The more arts educators are able to leverage gaming to help keep more students interested in exploring artistic pursuits, the more our society may grow as we meet the challenges of a world being driven more and more by the innovation economy.
