How To Credit Ideas

For anyone who watches YouTube slightly more than they should, you would know that every once in a while, a type of challenge will circulate. At the beginning of the video, there will likely be no credit, or you’ll hear something resembling "a bunch of people have done this video, but I’m not sure who started it" – but every trend starts somewhere, right? How important is it for YouTubers to credit their ideas?

  • As a public relations student, I know exact what you mean. We discussed last week one popular challenge; the ice bucket challenge. Not many people knew it was to raise funds/awareness for ALS, and not everyone donated. As a brand/business, it's certainly important to make that distinction - that "this is our idea" - but is it the same for all content creators? Is any idea really original?
