Instagram and poetry

The ability to mix poetry with pictures through new media has led to innovation of form and a revival in audience. The line drawings and word pictures of Rupi Kaur enjoyed an enthusiastic reception. The visual dimension of her work embodied a long-running shift in the way we encounter and share poetry. This is verse to *view* rather than to *hear*. An interrogation of meter and modes of engagement would show the evolving character of verse.
