Modern Art: Defining Art for the Everyday Viewer

With the rise of social media and in the wake of larger movements of modersim and post moderism, is art becoming inaccessible for the average viewer, who questions what is "allowed" to be classified as art, how artists can charge so much for something that is basically…a luxury in a struggling economy, and why a singular blue square on a blank canvas is allowed in top-grossing museums. With Instagram offering millions the chance to become photographers, the digital revolution snuffing out seemingly "archaic"mediums of oil and canvas, and tastes leaning more towards minimalism and the nondescript, should all works of art be granted the title of fine art, and if not, how can artists bridge the gap between fine art and the everyday onlooker?
