Religious figures and copyright. How has it come to this?

Recently, Disney invoked copyright law to take down art depicting the ancient Norse god Loki. The Mouse appears to consider this religious and cultural figure to be their intellectual property despite existing in Norse mythos for thousands of years.

What does this takedown mean for other religious figures in media or religious figures that have appeared independently in different art forms?
does this mean Rick Riordan (writer of the Percy Jackson books) has grounds to sue Supergiant games? (the developers of Hades)
