Sundance TV's

The hero of Sundance TV’s series "Rectify" is Daniel Holden, released after 20 years on Georgia’s death row on a technicality. Sent to death row at the age of 18, his mother, Janet, had to quit visiting after a few years to preserve her own sanity. Upon his unexpected release, and continued uncertainty about his guilt, the strained relationship between mother and son warrants thoughtful analysis. Why could she run to him to hold upon seeing him step out from the prison doors for the first time and yet cannot comfort him physically after returning home? How does Daniel’s return affect her relationships with Teddy, Amantha, Ted, and Jared. How do those relationships change? What methods does Janet use to try and reach Daniel and bring him into the family? Why does he resist her but not Amantha or Tawney?
