Why don't we want to be bilingual?

In Australia, there is a reticence to bilingualism, and so in the history of languages education, people have slung off at any new in-vogue language that a minority think may be good to learn. Some pundits talk about ‘strategic’ languages, and others talk about positive impacts on the brain. Others just find it’s fun.
