Why must there be favorites?

I’ve been an avenger fan in the past, favoring Thor or Captain America, but I grew tired of the arguments over the years of films. Now, as I listen to others argue over who is the strongest avenger or the best avenger or whatever, I wonder, why do we feel the need to choose an all-powerful avenger in the first place? Can’t we be satisfied with all the avengers being needed because of their different strengths and weaknesses? Why are we so tempted with favoring one avenger?
