    Friends vs. Silicon Valley - Is the sitcom evolving into a more effective form of storytelling?

    Discuss the pros and cons of 20 episode seasons of classic sitcoms like Friends, New Girl, and Brooklyn Nine Nine, and compare them to 10 episode seasons with concise arcs, like Silicon Valley and Veep. Do you like your sitcoms fluffy or real? Fun filler episodes or side-splitting cliffhangers?

    • Maybe make it less user-driven and more your take on the evolution of the sitcom. There's an obvious divide being made in the general public, so you'd do well to take a stance and argue for one side or another. – TheRaptorFence 9 years ago

    In regards to being too afraid of failure to write, an important thing to remember is that your first draft will always be a mess. You may think it sounds great while writing it, but be prepared to let it go when you rewrite. You first draft is just clay for molding; not very nice to look at, but necessary for your finished product.

    Just a suggestion for avid fan fiction writers: look into writing spec scripts for network TV shows. You may get paid, or even procure a job because of it!

    I’m gonna wax a little eloquent here – What really interests me about the superhero blockbuster phenomenon is the reason audiences repeatedly flock to these films. I think the fact that these same stories are still in such high demand say something about our society as a whole, about what we crave, what we fear, and what we aspire to be. Why are we so obsessed with these godlike super-humans?
