The differences between the 1818 and the 1831 Frankenstein

There are some major and minor differences between the 1818 version and the 1831 version of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. Some of them change the philosophical questioning of the creature, which others throw light on the developments in the reactions of the protagonists. But, what they can also reflect on is Mary Shelley’s development. There was a huge influence of her husband’s work in the earlier version but the later version was a little more independent. There are incredible complexities one can dive into with this developments or even limitations.

  • This is a very interesting topic! Comparing some of Percy Shelley’s work with some of Mary’s work will also help solidify the differences between his influence and her independent work on Frankenstein. – annasamson 2 years ago
