The allure of supernatural but human characters to a teenage audienceIn TV shows like The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, True Blood, Teen Wolf, Supernatural, Being Human and Grimm, supernatural creatures are presented as gruesome murderers but they are still seen as attractive and desirable to a primarily teenage audience. Where did this phenomenon originate? Who started it? Why is this true? Is there a gender bias in that these creatures are seen as more attractive to a female audience more than male? Is it only vampires, werewolves, angels and witches that are seen as sexy or is it other creatures too?

4 Ways a Show Can Lose Viewership: Good Luck, New Girl | |
Supernatural is one of my all time favourite Tv shows for exactly the reasons stated here. The way the death are different every time makes them so emotional even though you know the boys survive. These deaths are also so impactful because you can see the pain and anguish on the surviving brother’s face when one of them dies and the fact that he believes his brother is truly dead makes it so much more effective to the audience. | 10 Reasons to Watch Supernatural |
I completely agree that the reason people think The Originals is better is because they didn’s have to waste time with establishing characters, mythology, and the setting as we knew all of that from The Vampire Diaries. Hence the Originals started immediately with characters we know and love and a lot of action. To me, that doesn’t make it better it just makes it interesting for different reasons. | 4 Reasons The Vampire Diaries is Spiraling into Mediocrity |
In response to the claim of the season 5 villains being sub-par I cannot diagree however, the whole running plot of the dopplegangers and the impact it has on Stefan’s life made season five still very interesting as Stefan is a central character and his turmoil is very enticing as a plot line. Also, in response to the idea that new mythology is confusing I have to disagree as I found the doppleganger myth to be a very good barrier in Damon and Elena’s relationship and the overcoming of it to be crucial to their survival. | 4 Reasons The Vampire Diaries is Spiraling into Mediocrity |
I think that New Girl has been consistently good judging by the fact that I have watched it in its entirety two times and both time there was serious laugh out loud moments and I have grown to love all of the characters new and old alike.
