"Anne With An E" - Elucidating emotional realism and compassion

Some parents feel that Netflix's Original series "Anne With An E," a remake of Montgomery's beloved "Anne of Green Gables," goes too far in introducing topics such as child abuse, neglect, bullying, and sex to a family audience. Others feel it is an amazing and beautiful handling of these topics, teaching compassion and consideration even in a dark world. How does discussing difficult emotion promote or prevent healing and understanding?

    • For TV series and movies for family viewing, there are plenty of services now available like ‘common sense media’ which can help concerned parents discern whether the material can provide ground for difficult but stimulating conversations. – Dr. Vishnu Unnithan 4 years ago

The definition of a classic, according to the author is something that has universal application and relevance. Works that stand the test of time, that teach meaningful truths with timeless appeal are one way that the past can communicate with the future. We will not maintain the advantage of progress if we neglect the understanding that brought it about.

The Importance of Learning the Classics

I think the underlying issue here is defining and separating concepts of value and standards.
No one would think that textspeak should be the defining standard for American English spelling, although some short-sighted individuals might use it as such. It has value in its convenience and social usage. An actual language standard remains, however, and should be recognized as such in order to promote societal communication that bridges decades and generations. That standard communication is essential to maintaining the progress we have made in the last 500 years, and should not be changed easily.
Freedom of expression and the appreciation of social diversity are so important, but not at the expense of being able to talk to one another at all.

    Creative Texting: Writing and Textspeak

Both formats have value and place in our diverse world. I enjoy reading ebooks nearly as well as print, in part because my medical issues make ebook’s viewing adjustment qualities increasingly helpful. However, if the power is out, I can still turn to my print books. My own books are published in both formats.
