I’m not a rapid viewer of foreign films, but I am pretty shocked to not see Pan’s Labyrinth, Oldboy, or City of God on here. Those movies were beyond phenomenal.

Hideyoshi is the kind of character I would normally hate in anime, a comedy character solely made for cheap laughs, but I adored the Hideyoshi character, Hideyoshi in Baka and Test. Sigh…if only every anime comedy was like that.

Your first paragraph really hit a chord with me, because I spend all my free days just reading and re-reading a crap ton of manga and comic books (conveniently located right next to each other). I’ve been doing this since I was 12 years old.

I don’t know, yes Asian-Americans are not treated with the respect they deserve, but god damn do they have it better than black people. The stereotypes that black people face (criminals, violent thugs, drug addicts) are actively hurting them as a race. People are actually formulating their feelings around these stereotypes because these stereotypes actually have truth. Blacks are overwhelmingly arrested on both violent and drug charges, but these arrests all stem from profiling and discrimination that was created by people who think blacks are more likely to be criminals due to the stereotypes that have been raised on, and these stereotypes full their discriminatory actions. It is the most vicious of vicious circles. The stereotypes that Asians face don’t actually harm them, only disrespects and humiliates them. People aren’t scared of Asians or discriminate against them because of a “math genius” stereotype, and Asians are one of the most respected ethnicity in the country, with them earning more than any other ethnicity and holding a number of respectable positions. Then again, I’m white, so my insight on damaging stereotypes is exactly zero. I hope this post didn’t offend anyone.

The Asian-American Conversation that TV Networks Should be Having

Good observation on Bakuman. By keeping it in the background of the overall story and avoiding any physical contact, the romance could focus on all the things that strengthen romance.

Green Green was awful and DearS was one of the most sexist pieces of work I have ever laid eyes on.

Blackfish was messed up. I never had a clue that Sea World took so little regard to the emotional well being of their orcas. I’ve even been there, but I still failed to realize the park was treated more as an amusement park than an animal sanctuary. Especially cruel, considering how intelligent orcas are. Something so smart can’t be locked up and expected to be well behaved.

I tried watching the first episode, but I really didn’t like it. I know you say the show gets better (which I’m sure it does), but I want a show that is steady and rock solid with a good introductory episode. Oliver Queen came off as just another dull pretty boy with hints of cliche emotional depth and intelligence in hopes we see him as more than a pretty face. I didn’t, I saw him as a poor construction and attempt to be unique. I much prefer him the the Justice League Unlimited cartoon.
