    BDSM/ Kink within Mainstream Media

Is Kink or BDSM becoming more popular in television and film? Considering popular films such as Fifty Shades of Grey, and The Secretary among only a few, what kinds of kink is deemed acceptable in our broader cultural conscience? What does kink within these formats teach us about consent, sexuality and more?

    • It's important to distinguish between actual BDSM culture (consent, safety, sanity) and what is portrayed as BDSM in media (Fifty Shades of Grey was labeled BDSM and Kink but actually detailed an abusive relationship) when exploring this topic. – Amanda 4 years ago

A good article but I think it would have benefited from more in-depth integration of feminist and disability theory to really dive into the significance of the tropes. It is also interesting that when Alan Moore asked to cripple Barbara Gordon the editors of DC at the time said to: “cripple the bitch,” this has some pretty big implications for how sexism and ableism works in comics.

Women in Refrigerators: Killing Females in Comics

Incredibly intelligent and thoughtful. This article really made me look at sex differently within film and even beyond as well.
    Thank you.

Sex in Cinema: Poetry vs. Pornography (Explicit Content)

A well thought-out review of BvS. I would be interested in the author’s take on comparing how Marvel’s movies have differed in positive or negative ways from what DC is currently doing.
