Saving Batman vs Superman

In light of the release of the new trailer for Batman vs Superman; Dawn of Justice, this article would look at what director Zack Snyder should and should not do to make a film that both appeases the fanboys, and has a mass market appeal.
Special attention should be paid to other failed attempts at cinema crossovers (e.g. Freddy vs Jason, Alien vs Predator).

    The Fast and Furious Phenomenon

An in-depth look in how the 2001 ‘The Fast and the Furious’ became a surprise hit, survived two lacklustre sequels, and went on to become the unstoppable box-office juggernaut it is to day.

The article could examine the tweaks that have been made to genre throughout the series, as well as examine the different actors who have come and gone.

    • When you really look at the fast and furious films now-a-days, they have seemed to gone into self-parody. They know how ridiculous the films are, but they just try to have fun with it; see how far they can take their action scenes. – Aaron Hatch 9 years ago

I found the film to be by far the most interesting Hunger Games film to date; I really enjoyed the way that propaganda was used as a weapon and was relieved that it wasn’t so dependent on action (apart from the literal ‘save the cat’ moment, which was completely unnecessary).

A very well written article, you made a lot of great points, I hadn’t considered their references to pop culture as a way to make audiences feel included. Although I enjoy it, I feel Modern Family plays very fast and loose with the mockumentary format, besides the talking heads there is little to place it in the genre, way too high production values. Not that I’m complaining, it’s a good show that is exploiting a popular mode of representation.

Meet Me in St Louis is a great addition. I remember being completely freaked out about how weird and wild that scene was.

Very interesting read, I’ve enjoyed Parks in a lot of things in recent years but didn’t know this side of the story.

What if Eric Stoltz had never been replaced by Michael J Fox in Back to the Future??? Not sure the films would be regarded as the classics they are today.

I’d agree, Djúpið and The Hunt are excellent, I haven’t seen Headhunters but A Royal Affair from last year is really great too. I would definitely recommend that one if you haven’t seen it already.
