Playboy: The Revolution in Sexual Expression

Analyze the ways in which sexual expression has evolved with the Playboy publications. How has the content of the magazines shaped the critique of sexuality, for example, raising youth to believe nudity as something to be ashamed of. Give your take on how Playboy has helped influence the revolution in sex and sexuality. Use established authors, artists and models of the magazine to highlight Playboy as a tool towards progression to debunk the scrutiny of nudity.

    • This is an interesting topic. Considering the number of years Playboy has been around, a good essay can be written on this publication. – Joseph Cernik 2 years ago

Shel Silverstein and Neil Gaiman: A comparison of the magic of childhood

Both authors explored the magic of children, the innocence of imagination and characters that rebel against conforming to ‘adulthood.’ in what ways are these authors alike, what sets them apart. There is an importance to how an adult, or at least the idea of how adults are and how they view the world, and then there’s the children that make up these stories and poems that uncover the magic. What is this importance and how does it work to serve as an analysis of the outside world of the works, the reality in which we live in?

    • Love this so much! – Stephanie M. 2 years ago

    • There's some promising potential here for Contrast as well as comparison. Each of Silverstein's poems explores a "childish" concept just long enough to make a joke or two. Gaiman goes deep, exploring the possibilities of his premise just as much as he would his adult writing. That's not meant as a statement about the quality of one or the other, although you could weigh the pros and cons of the novelist approach and the poet approach. – noahspud 2 years ago

Honestly, I kind of gave up with delving further into the idea halfway through. I’m a novice to the anime world and I’m not too familiar with the elements, however I do enjoy Slice of life as it allows the viewers to delve into different aspects of Japanese culture at a relaxing pace.

not to harp on a previous comment, just forming an opinion, however,I feel as though Neil’s novels are magic realism. The Ocean at the end of the lane, for example contains the underlying message of there being things that we believe as children that adults tend to forget. the novel is rooted in realism but the realistic aspect of the novel is whats been conformed to the boy by his parents. only when the narrator is taken under Letti’s way of seeing the world does he find the magic under the surface.

I’m glad someone said it. I believe sailor moon crystal holds a certain appeal, it may bring satisfaction to some but it’s overall dissatisfying. not to knock the show, I grew up on sailor moon but when compared to the original the ‘prettiness’ of sailor moon crystal is nerve-wracking, even the monsters are perfect. in the original series there was a realness to it that the new one lacks, its nice to finally explore the outer senshi story in full but its the design that pulls me away, they all look like crayons, stick figures, but I digress.

In reference to the characters section, slice of life also contains the element of cute girls doing cute things, also attracting a certain appeal to the genre. These characters in most slice of life anime convey a sense of innocence and this innocence is what may also attract most to the genre. The element of innocence drives the protector and the admirer of slice of life, meaning for those who relate to the CGDCT character as an older sibling, they are attracted to protect that innocence and for those on the admiration side, the innocence is a conquest. To whomever this element appeals to, the innocence of CGDCT is another enticing element of slice of life anime.
