    Symbolism of Colour and Race

I’m not a person of colour so this topic isn’t for me, but it would be interesting to see someone write an article on how ingrained the symbolism of white and black is in Western society. Like things as white are coded as "good, pure, holy" ect where black is coded as "evil, impure, associated with death" ect. and how that’s kind of built into a lot of popular imagery and maybe how reversing those codes can be seen as an act of political subversion like having white represent coldness, antiseptic, emptiness and using the colour black to symbolize something like warmth and comfort ect. Anyways these things are just super pervasive and it would be interesting to see some one really analyze how that kind of symbolism plays into and reinforces racism in media

Huh, this is really interesting. I’ve never really thought about the morality of Pokemon before. I do have to say though, while I love the games I’ve always had a preference for participating in the “extras” like the mining, bases, contest kind of things. I think it would be nice, considering that people do find the treatment of Pokemon abusive, if the devs made a game that didn’t require Pokemon battles and focused more on cohabitation or something.
Anyways excellent food for thought! Thanks so much for this

Thank you for this article! It isn’t new to me as I’m pretty involved in queer politics these days but it’s so good to see this issue being talked about more and more and I’m impressed with how you’ve been handling issues in the comments.

I fully agree with you on the pervasiveness of the “Bury your gays” trope and to be honest I can’t really think of any examples in adult media with positive, non-angsty representation.

However given that you’re writing on “queer death” it might have been nice to mention trans people at least in passing in the intro. Not a complaint or anything, just maybe something to think about.

Hopefully things will keep improving with time though! And thanks for writing on an issue that’s affected so many people (myself included)

I’m so glad you mentioned that the gems are all technically agender! I think it’s something important that often gets overlooked and it’s interesting to see this used as an “out” so the gay doesn’t get censored like in say Adventure Time
