Superman does seem to embody a strange contradiction in superhero film audiences – for while we seem to long to see ‘people’ do extraordinary things, we also seem to need a tension to arise from the idea that our heroes may just lose. I agree that this makes a new Superman series a difficult one to develop as, unlike Batman or Iron Man, there is essentially little worry that he is not going to beat the bad guy as he is an invincible alien!

I think this is an interesting point – indeed, if you look at the Final Fantasy series, and the modern developed of those games, they seem to have put cinematic experiences above typical series troupes. For example, in FF13, the first 10-15 hours are almost entirely linear, with dramatic cut scenes and events – this is fine in a normal game, however with this series being typically a free roaming RPG, it is quite an interesting development.

I am really struggling to see how they will make it better, purely from a plot point of view – as i mentioned in the article, it seems that the whole Jeff thing is going to be a serious problem. I don’t think season 4 was ALL bad, but some changes are needed for sure – but whether Harmon can recapture the magic is another thing entirely.

I am a massive Aronofsky fan, but I am so glad he dropped out of Wolverine. On one hand it could have been a Batman Begins style art-superhero film which would have been great, but I feel there is no room in the X-Men series for something like this. Especially with the developments with ‘Days of Future Past’ making the Wolverine in cannon with the other X-Men films, Aronofsky’s style would not have suited the material. That then would have led to problems within the production, and a mixed reaction from the audience. This is just my opinion, but I am looking forward to this attempt at mainstream cinema in Noah, as opposed to joining a franchise which would not work for him.

Great article by the way!

It is great to see Pokemon Yellow included here, it always seems to be forgotten when people talk about the series! I loved that game when I was younger.
