Is There Any Real Positive Change That Can Be Attributed to Modern Celebrity Activism?

It is common to see celebrities of all stripes coming out and championing various causes. This makes headlines and is good publicity. However, is there any real evidence that this type of campaigning by modern celebrities has made any difference in real life? Is there evidence that the world is a much better place for this type of activism?

  • I think it also be interesting to explore if celebrity activism is being pushed upon public figures. Often they are told they MUST be role models, each of their actions are scrutinized, and activism gives them a better reputation. This could be an interesting angle if looking at the sincerity of celebrity activism. – Pamela Maria 6 years ago

Good points to ponder…the question came to mind is, what does the fact that this type of romance makes so much money say about us as a culture? Sure, for many these types of films will be harmless entertainment and remain as such…however considering the vast amount of #metoo comments coming out these days, could it be that many people actually believe that it is okay to abuse and even healthy to abuse others…in the name of love. Perhaps this type of thinking has become a cultural problem… Perhaps it is time to reconsider the ideals of people like Katherine Hepburn…
