    Top Soundtracks

This is, of course, subjective and broad. But the music in movies plays a HUGE role. What we hear while we watch a good movie affects our reaction. List what you think the best movie soundtracks are and back up your choices!

    • Kill Bill, Indians Jones, Drive, Guardians of the Galaxy, Batman (1989), Pirates of the Caribbean, and Pulp Fiction are a couple I could think of the top of my head. – Aaron Hatch 9 years ago

    • Could also talk about how genre influences the soundtrack. For example, Halloween and The Exorcist have quite similar yet distinctive songs attached to them to create a feeling of dread, whereas Kill Bill & Pulp Fiction use songs that are relevant and sometimes a twist on those of the era they depict. – Hannah Spencer 9 years ago

    • Lord of the Rings soundtracks - and subsequently the Hobbit ones - could be interesting to talk about. Especially because dominant themes and echoes of the first trilogy's soundtracks can be found in the second's soundtracks. They're almost their own stories. – Helen Parshall 9 years ago

    Top Ten Feature-Length Documentries

This is a subjective topic. So whoever wishes to undertake this topic would have to give a detailed argument as to why a specific feature-length documentary should be part of a top ten.

    • This Movie Is Not Yet Rated, Waiting for Superman, Super Size Me, and Gonzo would be some good recommendations. – Aaron Hatch 9 years ago

    • Blackfish. Always Blackfish. – Hannah Spencer 9 years ago

    • Miss Representation and Fed Up are also good recommendations. You could also discuss the effect the documentary has, if any. For example, the movie Blackfish caused Seaworld to lose profit. While films like Fed Up and Food Inc. show how the cooperations and government play a role in the public's food, yet no change has occurred. – Amanda Dominguez-Chio 9 years ago

Does Jarred Leto's New Joker Look Work?

DC recently released a picture of Jarred Leto as The Joker in the 2016 film Suicide Squad. This is obviously a total departure from the original Joker look; with the metal teeth and tattoos make him look more like more of a grunge metal band member than The Joker. With that said, does it still work regardless of it. It may be too soon to judge, as the film in not even near completion yet. Let's not forget that everyone hated the Joker look in The Dark Knight, and by the end, everyone loved his performance.

    • I think this topic would need to be broadened somehow, you just wouldn't get a full length article out of a discussion of the look of this Joker. Maybe if you look at different representations of him through comics, movies, TV and brought this newest version into that, that could still work. – Tyler McPherson 9 years ago

    • What would be the point of this, if I may ask? I mean, such lists already exist in Wikipedia. – T. Palomino 2 years ago

    Transgender Cinema: Exploitative or Sincere?

Have the films which contain a transgender narrative or theme been exploitative or sincere to its subject matter?

    • Could talk about how transgendered characters in film are unfairly treated as freaks, which they are not. An example is that the offensive dance club seen in the Hanover 2, that used a transgendered character as nothing more than a punchline. – Aaron Hatch 9 years ago

    • Like I commented on the topic above abut gender characters, Hedwig is great to analyse. It's a very emotional and sincere film that shows all the difficulties transgender people have to face to be accepted in society and how they have to accept their body too. – Rachel Elfassy Bitoun 9 years ago

    • Boys Don't Cry may be a good one to look at here, as, while the film is unflinchingly violent, the presentation of Brandon is unmistakably sympathetic. – Hannah Spencer 9 years ago

The Evolution of the Zombie Film

A comprehensive overview of this genre would be insightful and helpful for readers interested in the genre. Questions to ponder: what was the first Zombie film? Why do Zombies continue to fascinate us and what deeper meaning does it have for us as audience and society? Where can it go next?

    • This would be a very interesting article. You could even write about the two different zombies depicted in pop culture: the slow moving and the fast running ones. Just an idea! – Amanda Dominguez-Chio 9 years ago

    • There's been a lot of work done analyzing the zombie movie as a comparison to consumerism. Romero's _Dawn of the Dead_ was set in a shopping mall to emphasis this theme. Any discussion of how/why the zombie metaphor's in use would have to discuss the evolution from that point, or at least acknowledge it. – Monique 9 years ago

    • This type of article is on my 'to do' list. However, regarding the where can it go next question is an exploration of subcultures that invest in the zombie lore and have celebrated and much attended Zombie Walks. These participants might be able to answer that question. – Venus Echos 9 years ago

Films we like despite a fundamental ideological disagreement

So, for example, I'm an atheist, but I like the film Constantine (2005) even though it treats the Christian understanding of god, heaven, and hell as actually real. I choose to see the film as a kind of Fantasy film, in the same sense that Harry Potter treats magic as though it were real. I love the atmosphere of that film, and some of the supporting roles are excellent, especially Tilda Swinton, and Peter Stormare as an awesome interpretation of the devil.

    • Other films that start controversy regarding religions inaccuracies is Passion of the Christ, Noah, and The Last Temptation of Christ. – Aaron Hatch 9 years ago
